KEROYON Racer – A Grand Prix Fantasy, Reborn
This wonderful replica was recreated from the imagination of a grandchild and the memories of a beloved 1960’s Japanese TV character.
Around 15 years ago, Mr Furukawa was watching the DVD KEROYON no Dai-Jidōsha Race (KEROYON’s Grand Car Race) with his grandchildren. Upon seeing the whimsical “KEROYON-Go” race car, one of them turned to him and said, “I want to ride in that!” — and so the adventure began.
Mr Furukawa contacted Seiji Fujishiro’s studio to inquire whether the original car used in the Japan Grand Prix still existed. When it became clear that the vehicle was no longer preserved, he sought formal permission to recreate the KEROYON car.
Thanks to Mr Fujishiro’s kind support, Mr Furukawa received permission to create a one-off prototype. He began by handcrafting a 1/5 scale model, referencing vintage magazine images and race data. After showing it to Mr Fujishiro on five occasions — and making refinements based on his input — the model was finally approved.
Using 3D scanning technology, a full-size replica was built. The car features a 4.0-litre Toyota V8 engine, matching the specs of the original Japan GP version, and is being tuned to run with an Edelbrock carburettor setup.
The result is more than a replica — it is a loving tribute to childhood wonder, respectful craftsmanship, and one of Japan’s most enchanting visual storytellers.
Approved by Seiji Fujishiro Studio and exhibited at Nostalgic 2 Days 2025 with full legal authorisation.
ケロヨン号 ― 幻のキャラクターカー、蘇る
すべては、孫の一言と、1960年代の日本の名キャラクター「ケロヨン」への想いから始まりました。
およそ15年前、ノーチラススポーツカーズ代表の古川は、孫たちと一緒にDVD『ケロヨンの大自動車レース』（藤城清治事務所公認）を観ていました。その時、孫の一人が「このクルマに乗りたい！」と口にしたのです。
古川は藤城清治事務所や美術館に問い合わせ、日本グランプリに登場した「ケロヨン号」が現存しているかを調べましたが、保存車両は確認されませんでした。
劇場版のデザインは意匠権の対象ではないとはいえ、正式な許諾を取得しました。
こうして、プロトタイプ1台に限った制作許可を得てプロジェクトが始動。古川は当時の雑誌写真や諸元表を参考に、5分の1スケールの模型をハンドメイドで製作。
その模型を 5回にわたり藤城清治氏に直接見ていただき、修正を加えながら形状の確認を受けました。
模型が承認された後は、3次元測定技術を持つ企業の協力でフルスケールのボディを設計・製作。エンジンには、かつての日本GP版と同じトヨタ・クラウン8のV8エンジン（4.0リッター）を採用し、エーデルブロック製キャブレターでの稼働を目指して調整が進められています。
本プロジェクトは藤城清治事務所の正式な許諾のもとで製作・出展されており、Nostalgic 2 Days 2025 にも展示されました。弁護士同席のもと、法的手続きを経た公認レプリカです。
